Nintendo has decided to name their next-gen console "Wii" (pronounced 'We'), it was hyped under the codename Revolution until now. There is a lot of speculation on what will go into this machine, but what is now known is that the controller is innovative and different.
Sony has indicated that PS3 will ship later this year, probably for around US$400. XBox 360 has been around for a little while now, mostly to good reviews.
Who will win?
XBox 360 has the lead, PS3 alledgedly has the best graphics (alledgedly), Wii has the new controller. My take is that if 'Wii' works as advertised in the videos and the controller is indeed simple and fun to use -- they will pretty much sell a lot more units than Sony or M$.
My reasoning is that ultimately consumers will buy a console for game-play, not to replace their home-entertainment system. Not in 2006 anyway -- and Nintendo seems to be pretty much focused on great game play and making their console as widely accessible as possible. Even if they can get 10% more women to start playing their games -- that along will be a huge new market for them.
Sony/M$ seem to be starting on a long path to build 'the entertainment box', and in this regard their product line is really Version 1 and we/they have a long way to go before it will be the 'one box that will rule them all'.
In 12 months we will know...

Hi Raj,
Love your lectures for DSA btw.
I don't see how any console other than the PS3 can win the console wars, and I'm an xbox man.
It will have superior graphics, more games, a built in Blu-Ray drive and Japan! Plus you (hopefully) won't need a Windows Media Center PC to use the built in multimedia functions.
If blue-ray becomes mainstream Sony will have sales to people looking for a cheap alternative to a Blu-Ray player, the exact same thing happened with DVD the first time round, perfect timing.
I say Japan because thats where Sony kills MS, the PS2 keeps thrashing the Xbox360 in sales, as do most of the handheld consoles.
I also think that the market is changing, they need to have built in media capabilities, I see the next-gen consoles as something I can watch movies on, hopefully watch recorded TV shows on as well as play games on. People are also looking more at handhelds, with the biggest 'war' at the moment between the PSP and DS (Lite).
For me however, it will be my Original Xbox, atleast until I can mod one of the next-gen consoles and move my 500GB drive across from the original.
Nintendo is often viewed as a "family" games system, which I think robs it of a lot of sales. Mario vs Need for Speed.

If any of you have been paying attention to what Nintendo is trying to accomplish with their nex-gen system, then you know as well as i do that the clear winner will indeed be the Nintendo Wii.
When it comes to graphics, the Wii is over shadowed by the 360 and PS3, but if you are a true gamer, then you most likely accepted the fact that graphics are not everything. Its all about he gameplay, and Nintendo is evolving the way we play games.
Recently announced, Nintendo teamed up with web browser company Opera to bring a fully featured web browser to the Wii. If anything, this is an indication that Nintendo is trying to reach out farther than the gaming community.
With all this said, i belive that the 360 and the PS3 will have a contender that is aimed toward getting back what is rightfully theirs, the top spot in gaming.
The Wii will win, withour a doubt. It has more soul than any other device
